Canada's Comark apparel chain, which operates the more than 300 Ricki's, Bootlegger and Cleo stores across the country, is up for sale in a deal that could fetch up to $400 million, Reuters yesterday reported, citing sources.

The sale, which is being run by investment bank Oppenheimer & Co, is in the final stages, the report said.

Established in 1976, Mississauga-based Comark is one of Canada's leading specialty apparel retailers with over 300 stores, 142 Ricki's stores, 91 Bootlegger and 85 Cleo.

Since inception, Comark was run by the Brenninkmeyer family, and was acquired in 2005 by an investment fund managed by KarpReilly of Connecticut.

Its stores are located in shopping malls and big box power centres across Canada, mainly in small to mid-size suburban markets.

The company offers tops, sweaters, tees and camis, blazers and vests, workwear essentials, pants, custom fit pants, jeans, skirts, dresses, outerwear, cold weather accessories, accessories, jewelry, and casuals. It offers products primarily for working women and younger adults.
