The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released a consultation paper on the issue of revision of national roaming charges.

TRAI decided to conduct a comprehensive 'review of tariff for national roaming' in view of the changes in regimes governing some of the cost components, which formed part of the national roaming charges, an official release said today.

The review of roaming charges follows an earlier TRAI consultation paper on National Telecom Policy, 2012 that deliberated the possibility of mandating free national roaming and carried out a detailed impact analysis.

TRAI has now also sought the views of stakeholders on the tariff regime for video calls and SMS while on national roaming and on the desirability of allowing Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs) for national roaming service.

TRAI has specifically sought comments from stakeholders on issues related to tariffs for national roaming, supported by necessary details.
