Singapore Airlines has reached an agreement with Airbus for deferred deliveries of eight A380 superjumbos. Deliveries of SIA's 12th to 19th A380 will be deferred by a period of 6-12 months.

The new schedule will see the 12th superjumbo being delivered in October 2010, rather than April of that year, and the 19th being delivered in January 2012, a full year later than the earlier January 2011.

The airline currently operates nine A380s, and is slated to take delivery of an additional two by 31 March 2010. SIA has said it was "...satisfied with the operational and commercial performance of its A380s."

SIA operates A380s twice-daily to London Heathrow and daily to Sydney, Tokyo Narita, Paris Charles de Gaulle and Hong Kong. It is due to commence services to Melbourne starting 29 September.

Suffering its first financial losses since 2003, SIA has cut back on routes and capacity. It has decommissioned three 747-400s during in the second quarter and cut capacity by 13.7%.
