Time magazine names ‘The Protester’, as its person of the year

Time magazine yesterday named ''The Protester'' its person of the year, in a tribute to people engaged in bringing about change across the world from the Middle East to US and Europe.
"There's this contagion of protest," Time managing editor Richard Stengel said on NBC television. "These are folks who are changing history already and they will change history in the future."
The protesters trumped the traditional individual contenders who included admiral William McRaven, who successfully commanded the US mission to eliminate Al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden.
Last year, the honour had gone to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, whose competitors included whistleblower Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks.
This time, several political heavyweights such as McRaven, Chinese dissident Ai Weiwei, and influential Republican Congressman Paul Ryan figured in the list.
On a lighter note Kate Middleton, who was credited for putting a spring back in the British monarchy's step with her wedding to Prince William was also on the list.
