HTC launches HTC EVO 3D phone

HTC Corporation, today launched the HTC EVO 3D phone based on Qualcomm Incorporated's Snapdragon S3 processor at Qualcomm's signature event, India On 2011.

 HTC EVO 3D adds to the mobile multimedia experience by providing the ability to capture and not only view in 3D through a brilliant high-definition display. Additionally it also allows sharing at fast speeds, offering consumers the ultimate glasses-free 3D experience.

The EVO 3D comes with the Gingerbread (2.3) version of Android, and features first QHD 3D 4.3-inch display and a powerful  Snapdragon S3 processor (1.2 GHz Dual-core CPUs). HTC EVO 3D is also equipped with dual 5 megapixel cameras, that allow capture of both high-quality conventional and stunning 3D images and videos, which opens up new frontiers for user-generated content, social networking and streaming video.

According to Faisal Siddiqui, country head, HTC-India, the company was proud to collaborate with Qualcomm to present another technological breakthrough device from HTC, the EVO 3D-the first smartphone available in the Indian market offering a superior 3D viewing experience without glasses. He said the company was confident that the HTC EVO 3D would set a benchmark for 3D viewing and the company's consumers would make best use of the offering.

Dr Sandeep Sibal, country manager and VP business development, Qualcomm India and South Asia said,  the device opened up a new dimension for capturing, consuming and interacting with 3D content on the move. He added, the powerful and power-efficient asynchronous dual core CPUs, coupled with the rich 3D and HD capabilities of Adreno 220 GPU and integrated support for stereoscopic 3D in Snapdragon, enabled an immersive glasses-free 3D experience for Indian consumers.

The HTC EVO 3D's dynamic ability to capture and playback video in 3D would be useful to consumers in numerous ways:

• Real estate agents could create and share 3D virtual tours of homes to allow out-of-town buyers a ''walk through'' the properties
  
  
• 3D mapping of terrain would add new features for navigation, and hikers could benefit with aerial views of the topography of rivers and mountains while in the backcountry; and
  
• Families could recreate the excitement of their vacation and feel like they were there again.

According to Lennard Hoornik, president of HTC South Asia Pacific, HTC believed in offering a wide portfolio of beautifully designed, powerful and highly customisable devices for its customers, and the HTC EVO 3D did just that. He added that as HTC continued to push the limits of innovation, the company was looking forward to deliver more and more innovative products such as the HTC EVO 3D to its customers.

According to ABI Research mobile 3D devices would be driven by three key applications: creation of user-generated 3D content by integrated video and still cameras, playback of 3D content and 3D gaming. It also expected mobile devices to turn out to be the most successful form factor towards bringing 3D technology into mainstream markets.

The EVO 3D carries a price tag of Rs35,990 at authorised HTC resellers across India, though prices may vary due to taxes.
