Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL), the Indian arm of Japanese carmaker Honda, will stop production and sale of its premium hatchback Jazz from next month, ahead of the launch of a new generation of the model early next year.

The company will also be introducing its entry-level sedan Amaze in April, with a view to pump up volume.

''We will have a gap in the production of the current Honda Jazz from March 2013 onwards. The next generation Jazz is planned to be introduced in India in 2014,'' a company spokesperson said.

In view of this, the company has currently stopped taking further bookings of the Jazz, the spokesperson added.

The Jazz, which was launched in India in 2009 with a price tag of over Rs7 lakh, is currently being priced between Rs5.99 lakh and Rs6.56 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

HCIL slashed the price by up to Rs1.6 lakh in 2011 following lukewarm response from buyers, after which sales picked up gradually with a waiting period going up to three months.
