Aventis CropScience, formed after the merger of Hoechst AG and Rhone-Poulenc SA, has identified India as a base for outsourcing global requirements of agrochemical products. To start with, the parent company will buy bromoconazole, a fungicide, from Aventis CropScience India, beginning next year.

The Indian subsidiary has recently invested Rs 5-10 crore towards upgradation of its Ankleshwar manufacturing unit and expects to reap Rs 20 crore from this single product in the first three years.

The company is also hopeful of manufacturing three more products – anilophos, hostatheon and isoproteuron – for the parent company. "We expect to double our exports in the next year to Rs 40 crore", says V Sagar Kaushik, country head, Aventis CropScience India.

Production of formulations for exports is also a possibility that is being looked into, says Mr Kaushik.
