New Delhi: Union Civil Aviation Minister Shahnawaz Hussain met Disinvestment Minister Arun Shourie on 11 September 2001, to discuss Air India's disinvestments plans. After the meeting, Hussain said a final decision on how to move ahead with AI privatisation would be taken next week once the Tatas meet Shourie.

The Tatas, meanwhile, denied newspaper reports that said they are talking to prospective bidders like United Airlines. "Also, Ratan Tata has no appointment with the government to communicate their final position on Air India," a company communiqué said. "We wish to clarify that we are still assessing the situation arising from Singapore Airlines' withdrawal from the disinvestment process and have not initiated any formal talks with any other airline."
