Autodesk acquires Qontext from Hyderabad-based Pramati Technologies

Autodesk Inc, the 3D design, engineering and entertainment software firm, yesterday said that it has acquired the enterprise social collaboration software platform – Qontext, from Hyderabad-based Pramati Technologies.

Nasdaq-listed Autodesk did not disclose the financial terms of the deal, but said that the acquisition would add new social capabilities to Autodesk 360, a cloud-based platform that offers users the ability to store, search, and view critical design data improving the way they design, visualise, simulate and share work with others at anytime and from anywhere.

''Autodesk's acquisition of the Qontext technology is a testament to the Pramati strategy,'' said Vijay Pullur, president, Pramati. ''This transaction is a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to incubate and build companies that address the rapidly changing needs of business through highly innovative technologies.''

The addition of the Qontext technology to the Autodesk portfolio will lead to new technology innovations that help our customers embrace these disruptive technologies and leverage them for competitive advantage,'' said Amar Hanspal, Autodesk senior vice president of information modeling and platform products.

Founded in 1998 by Jay Raghavendra Pullur, Hyderabad-based Pramati as a web technology company, but made its name in enterprise-class web infrastructure technology with its flagship product the Pramati Application Server, which was installed by each of India's top 10 banks.

Its clients include Morgan Stanley, ICICI Bank, Visa, Kimberly-Clark, Sara-Lee, Liquidation.com, and others.

San Francisco, California-based Autodesk became best known for its AutoCAD software but now develops a broad range of software for design, engineering, and entertainment as well as a line of software for consumers, including Sketchbook, Homestyler, and Pixlr.
