Mumbai: ICICI Bank has launched its mobile ATM in Mumbai — the first of its kind in India. In Mumbai, the mobile ATM van will be parked at four locations in the suburbs daily for two hours each.

“The four locations have been chosen depending on the sizeable number of customers we have in these pockets,“ says ICICI Bank executive director Chanda Kochhar.

“Designed by well-known automobile designer Dilip Chhabria [the software was developed in-house], “the mobile ATM will be connected to the central database of the bank through the GPRS (general packet radio service) technology, which enables real-time information exchange through the wireless media,“ adds Kochhar.

Though the new mobile ATM van can perform all the functions of a bank branch, it will serve only as an ATM until the Reserve Bank of India's permission for a branch licence is granted, says ICICI Bank general manager O P Srivastava.
