India’s GST collection at record 1.87 lakh crore in April 2023

Gross revenue collected by way of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in April 2023 stood at Rs1,87,035 crore, showing an increase of Rs19,495 crore or about 16.36 per cent more than the highest collection of Rs1,67,540 crore, reported in April 2022.

The gross GST revenue of Rs1,87,035 crore included CGST of Rs38,440 crore, SGST of Rs47,412 crore, IGST of Rs89,158 crore (including Rs34,972 crore collected on import of goods) and cess of Rs12,025 crore (including Rs901 crore collected on import of goods).
The government has settled Rs45,864 crore towards CGST and Rs37,959 crore towards SGST from IGST. The total revenue of the centre and the states for April 2023, after regular settlement, stood at Rs84,304 crore of CGST and Rs85,371 crore of SGST.
Net revenues for April 2023 are 12 per cent higher than net GST revenues in the same month last year. During the month, revenues from domestic transactions (including import of services) were up more than 16 per cent compared to the revenues from these sources during April last year.
It is also for the first time that gross GST collection has crossed the Rs1.75 lakh crore mark. Total number of e-way bills generated in March 2023 stood at 90 million, which is 11 per cent higher than the 81 million e-way bills generated in February 2023.
April 2023 saw the highest ever tax collection on a single day on 20 April 2023. On 20 April 2023, Rs68,228 crore was paid through 9. 8 lakh transactions. The highest single day payment last year (on the same date) was Rs57,846 crore through 9.6 lakh transactions.
