Vodafone Essar overtakes Bharti in March subscriber additions

With the addition of 36 lakh new users in March, mobile phone operator Vodafone Essar has overtaken number one player Bharti Airtel in mobile subscriber additions

Bharti Airtel, added 30 lakh users in March.

The end of the month saw the all-India GSM cellular subscriber base rising to 42,18 crore registering a 3.42 per cent increase to the previous financial year.

Overall, the total subscriber additions registered by GSM telephony operators in the country during March stood at 1.39 crore according to the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).

Bharti Airtel's total subscriber base was 12.7 crore which represents a market share of 30.25 per cent, followed by Vodafone Essar, with a total subscriber base of 10 crore and a marketshare of 23.91 per cent.

Idea Cellular subscriber additions stood at 17 lakh during March, which took its mobile user base to 6.38 crore, representing a 15.13 per cent market share.
