Beijing: China's air passenger numbers have shot up 15.9 per cent, year-on-year, to 40.9 million people. The rise in numbers has come on the back of buoyant international travel, according to Chinese news agency, Xinhua. It was citing sources in the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China.
According to the Xinhua report, passengers traveling on international routes went up by 23.9 per cent to 3.8 million, while those traveling on domestic routes grew 15.1 per cent to 37.1 million.
International cargo transport went up 25.1 per cent to 238,000 tonnes, with total cargo transport volume up 13.3 per cent at 858,000 tonnes, it added.
The rapid growth in international transport was mainly due to growing external trade and extension of services, Xinhua said.
