Etisalat DB Telecom, a joint venture between India's DB Group and UAE-based The Emirates Telecommunications Corporation or Etisalat, has informed its employees that it would not be able to pay salaries without the approval of the court.

The operator, which is also in the process of winding up its telecom business in the country, has informed its employees that it would not pay salaries without the approval of the court.

"It is no longer possible for the company to pay its employees (or any creditor for that matter) without the approval of the court or a liquidator approved by the Court," the company said in an e-mail sent to its employees.

The move will impact about 600 employees of the company. On March 12, 2012, Etisalat had filed a suit to wind up the company in the Mumbai High Court.

In February 2012, Etisalat had decided to suspend its network and services, following a Supreme Court order into the 2G spectrum scam, which also resulted in revoking its licences.

The company's salary for March will only be the provided after approval court, the e-mail said, adding, that the hearing has been set for March 28, 2012.
