SJVN begins work on second unit of 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Plant in Bihar

SJVN started work on the second unit of the 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Plant in Bihar on Tuesday. CMD N L Sharma virtually inaugurated the works of the second unit of the 2 X 660 MW power plant. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had, on 9 March 2019, laid the foundation stone of the plant. Sharma said the progress of the project is being continuously monitored by union minister for power and new and renewable energy R K Singh. He exhorted all stakeholders to enthusiastically strive hard to commission the Project prior to the scheduled timeframe. 
The project consists of two units and more than  50 per cent works related to the first unit have already been completed. The 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Plant with Ultra Super Critical Technology is being developed by SJVN Thermal Pvt Ltd (a fully owned subsidiary of SJVN Limited). The plant involves investment of around Rs11,000 crore. On commissioning, the plant will generate 9,828 million units of electricity. 
He exhorted every individual associated with activities of the plant to concertedly work towards commissioning of the first unit of the plant by June 2023 and the second unit by January 2024. 
SJVN has an installed capacity of 2,016.51 MW and has more than 11,000 MW in pipeline. It aims to generate 5,000 MW by 2023, 12,000 MW by 2030 and 25,000 MW by 2040. SJVN has presence in various sectors of energy generation which includes Hydro, Wind, Solar and Thermal. The company also has presence in the field of energy transmission.
