SECI invites bidders for green ammonia production

Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has issued Request for Selection (RfS) of ammonia producers under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) programme of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM).

SECI has initiated competitive bidding process for setting up a total of 5.39 lakh tonnes annual production capacity for green ammonium, as part of the initiative to create demand for green hydrogen and its derivatives in the country.

The bidding for setting up capacity and supply of green ammonia will be carried out through e-bidding followed by an e-reverse auction process. Green Ammonia so produced will be supplied to fertiliser companies in the country.

The ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE) had earlier allocated 4.12 lakh tonnes per annum of production capacity and 1.5 GW per annum of electrolyser manufacturing capacity under the SIGHT programme.

The ministry has already issued guidelines for implementation of component II of the SIGHT programme that prescribes incentive for procurement of green ammonia produced under the scheme. SECI is the implementing agency for the scheme.

Lunched on 4 January 2023 with an outlay of Rs19,744 crore for the period ending FY 2029-30, the National Green Hydrogen Mission serves as an inspiration for energy transition within and outside the country. The mission is expected to contribute significantly to decarbonisation of the economy besides reducing dependence on fossil fuel imports.
