India’s core sector production increased by 1.8% in November

Core sector industrial production in India, based on the index of core industries, expanded by 1.8 per cent year-on-year in November 2025, on the back of increase in the production of cement, steel, fertilizer and coal.
Production in the eight core industries, comprising coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, cement and electricity, having a share of 40.27 per cent in the general Index of Industrial production (IIP), showed a decline of 0.1 per cent in October 2025.
Core sector production recorded a cumulative growth of 2.4 per cent year-on-year during April-November 2025-26, according to provisional estimates.
Production of coal, which has a weight of 10.33 per cent in the index, increased by 2.1 per cent in November, while cumulative production declined by 1.4 per cent during April-November 2025-26.
Production of crude oil (weight of 8.98 per cent in IIP) declined by 3.2 per cent in November, while cumulative production of crude oil declined by 1.3 per cent during April-November 2025-26.
Production of natural gas (weight of 6.88 per cent in IIP) declined by 2.5 per cent in November, while cumulative production of natural gas declined by 3.0 per cent during April-November 2025-26.
Petroleum refinery production (weight of 28.04 per cent in IIP) declined by 0.9 per cent in November, while cumulative refinery throughput increased by 0.2 per cent during April-November 2025-26.
Fertilizer production (weight of 2.63 per cent in IIP) increased by 5.6 per cent in November, while cumulative production of fertiliser increased by 1.3 per cent during April-November 2025-26.
Production of steel (weight of 17.92 per cent in IIP) increased by 6.1 per cent in November, while cumulative steel production increased by 9.7 per cent during April-November 2025-26.
Cement production (weight of 5.37 per cent) increased by 14.5 per cent in November, while cumulative cement production increased by 8.2 per cent during April-November 2025-26.
Electricity generation (weight of 19.85 per cent in IIP) declined by 2.2 per cent in November, while cumulative generation of electricity declined by 0.3 per cent during April-November 2025-26.
