Air Asia launches Tiruchi - Kuala Lumpur flight from 1 November

Kuala Lumpur-based international low cost airline Air Asia shall make its foray into the Indian market with its inaugural service on the Kuala Lumpur-Tiruchi-Kuala Lumpur sector that is scheduled to launch from 1 November.

The Bureau of civil aviation had accorded security clearance to the airline, and it is awaiting the nod from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) before commencing operations.

A two-member team from Air Asia visited the Tiruchi airport this week to finalise operational and logistic details. It was led by Ahmad Ismail, manager for standards and new stations at Air Asia. The team held separate talks with airport director S Sreekumar and station manager T H Radhakrishnan of Air India, which will be the ground handling agency.

Flights on the Kuala Lumpur-Tiruchi-Kuala Lumpur sector are to be a daily service, for which Air Asia will deplly and an all-economy class Airbus A320 with a capacity of 180 passengers. 

The flight from Kuala Lumpur would arrive at Tiruchi at 0855 hours, and would depart back at 0925 hours. Air Asia will evaluate the possibility for connecting to more Indian destinations once the Tiruchi service commences.
