1.The word budget comes from the French bougette or bouge, which means a leather bag.

2.The budget papers are printed by the finance ministry at its own press. The employees involved in printing are isolated from the outside world for this period.

3.Indira Gandhi has been India's only woman finance minister (from 1970 to 1971).

4.Former finance minister Morarji Desai presented the budget eight times, and two interim budgets, the most by any.

5.Yashwant Sinha began the new timing of budget speech by presenting the budget from 2001 at 11:00 am.

6.Budget papers began to be prepared in Hindi from 1955-56.

7.R Venkataraman is the only finance minister who later became the President of India.
