DJI reveals its newest drone, DJI Mavic Air

DJI has finally revealed the newest addition to its drone lineup called the DJI Mavic Air. Although the design of the drone and its specifications leaked out a day before launch, what was not known was the price, which has now been revealed to be $799.
The DJI Mavic Air is quite similar to the budget-friendly DJI Spark drone, and shares many of the features of the high-end DJI Mavik Pro, according to commentators. The Mavic Air could be seen to offer the best of both worlds and also comes with a reasonable price tag, once one takes a look at what the drone offers, they say.
The Mavic Air comes with a 32 MP camera capable of shooting 4K video @24 or 30 fps, and also has an 8GB of internal storage alongside an extension for a micro-SD card. The camera is also capable of shooting 12 MP still photos and is mounted on a 3-axis gimbal, which also contributes to a very smooth footage.
The drone comes with other shooting modes as well such as the 32 MP panorama shooting option and also a 'tiny planet mode' wherein the photos shot look as though they have been taken from miles up in the air. With a flight time of 21 minutes as against 4-5 minutes for the DJI Spark, the Mavic Air marks a significant improvement over the DJI Spark.
The launch event earlier today in NYC offered the public its first chance to see the revamped guidance system, which works on the lines of a self-driving car. Sensors scan the environment and processors use algorithms to interpret that data to steer the craft down the path free from obstacles.
According to commentators, the most obvious sensors on the new drone are the seven cameras. The primary function of the main camera is to create 12-megapixel still images and 4K video, but it also has a role to play in navigation.
