Thousands of dog lovers from around the world have rallied around Bonsai, an English Bulldog puppy born with a severely deformed body and several genetic deformities.

Bonsai was born with only half his body and has just half a spine, no pelvis and tiny contracted hind legs.

He has also developed a condition called Swimmer Puppy Syndrome, which leaves him unable to stand normally as it spreads out his little legs, and flattens his chest, putting pressure on his internal organs.

In June this year, vets amputated both is dysfunctional hind-legs and post the surgery, he is now doing well.

The Fort Worth rescue organisation, Friends of Emma, which is caring for the special pup has set up a fundraiser collecting ''Love, prayers, dollars, clicks and shares''.

Bonsai was born to an Arkansas breeder in April 2015.

The group decided to get the puppy's hind legs amputated after being told by a medical practitioner that the condition would make the hind legs contract and twist as he grew up.

The 11-weeks old, Bonsai had turned out to be a happy and vibrant puppy.

Elizabeth Hart, one of the rescuers has launched a crowdfunded campaign to collect donations for the treatment and therapy of the small puppy.

Bonsai would need regular MRI screening to monitor the functioning of his internal organs. Being unable to his control bowel movement Bonsai has to wear a diaper all the time.

According to the crowdfunded campaign page it was not possible to fit Bonsai with prosthetic limbs as there was no nerve function left for limb functioning.
