New Commerce Secretary takes charge

New Delhi: Gopal K Pillai, IAS, succeeds S N Menon, who retired today as secretary, ministry of commerce and industry.

Pillai, a 1972-batch officer of Kerala cadre, was earlier special secretary in the commerce ministry and is India's chief negotiator at WTO, and chairman, Board of Approvals for Special Economic Zones in the ministry.

He has worked in the ministries of defence, home affairs and shipping and transport.
