Antony Jacob is MD of Royal Sundaram
Chennai: Antony Jacob, 43, deputy managing director, Royal Sundaram Alliance Insurance Company, has been elevated as the managing director with effect from 1 April 2004. He will be taking over from Micky Brigg, who will now be Royal & Sun Alliance's director for South Asia and continue on the board of Royal Sundaram.
Antony is a chartered accountant who joined Royal & Sun Alliance in 1996 after stints in ITC and Continental Grain (India) Ltd. Antony said that his immediate priority will be to "consolidate our position and increase the retail business to around Rs 20 crore per month from around Rs 12 crore."
M Damodaran all set to head IDBI
New Delhi: The Indian government, reports suggest, has cleared the appointment of UTI chairman M Damodaran as the next chairman of Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI). A notification formalising the appointment will be issued shortly.
An officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Damodaran has held important assignments in the Ministry of Finance and the Reserve Bank of India prior to heading UTI.

Krishna Murthy appointed new CEC
New Delhi: The Indian government has appointed T S Krishna Murthy as the next chief election commissioner (CEC), who will oversee the coming Lok Sabha elections. Taruvai Subbayya Krishna Murthy, 63, the first Indian Revenue Service (IRS) to become an election commissioner, will take over from J M Lyngdoh, whose term ends on February 7.
He was appointed EC in January 2000 and will remain CEC till May 2005 when he will be 65 years beyond which a person cannot continue in that post. Reacting to his appointment, Murthy, who was in Chennai, said he was happy and had never anything to worry about the appointment. About the dates for the Lok Sabha polls, he said he could not hazard any guess now as the commission is a collective body and decisions have to be taken in consultation with other members.
