Ericsson appoints new head of region, India

Ericsson, Swedish telecom equipment manufacturer, has appointed Chris Houghton as new Head of Region India, effective 3 June 2013.

Houghton, who is currently head of Ericsson's customer business in  the UK and Ireland and the managing director of Ericsson UK, has also been named member of the company's global leadership team (GLT).

He succeeds Fredrik Jejdling, who has moved as head of the sub-Saharan Africa region, the company said in a statement.

In this new role Houghton will also take a seat on Ericsson's global leadership team, reporting to the chairman of the India region and senior vice president Asia-Pacific, Mats H Olsson.

Houghton joined Ericsson UK in December 2010 as head of customer UK unit and Ireland and managing director, Ericsson UK, responsible for Ericsson's business in the UK and Ireland.

He has worked for Ericsson for 25 years prior to relocating to the UK he held senior positions in Japan, Hungary and Sweden.
