Reliance Communications has appointed Gurdeep Singh as president and CEO of its Wireless Business and also a member of Reliance Management Board (RMB). Singh was previously the chief operating officer, India, with Aircel.

Singh, who had quit Aircel in January this year, had also worked with Hutch (now Vodafone India) as director operations for north India for about five years.

An alumnus of BITS Pilani, Singh has previously worked in sectors like telecom, home appliances and consumer electronics.

Singh replaces Syed Safawi, who had left RCom in February after his contract ended. The Anil Ambani group company had appointed Shamik Das as interim joint president and COO of the company, after Safawi quit.

The mobile business unit accounted for 62 per cent of Reliance Communications' revenue for the quarter ended March.
