Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata has been conferred the the Swiss Ambassador's award for "exceptional leadership" for his contribution towards strengthening ties between India and Switzerland.

Tata said he owed it to his colleagues who made whatever had happened in Tata Group happen, after receiving the award in New Delhi last night.

According to Tata, he had followed the business models of his ancestors and whatever his achievement within the group had come due to the exceptionally talented people around him.

He said he had merely travelled the same journey that his ancestors did and it was, he thought, the right thing to do, whenever it happened, he said.

Switzerland's ambassador to India, Philippe Welti conferred the award on Tata at a ceremony at the Swiss embassy in New Delhi today.

The Swiss Ambassador's award was founded in 2010, when it was conferred on film-maker Yash Chopra for his contribution to strengthening Indo-Swiss people-to-people relations through his movies.
