Vivek Venkatachalam to lead GE’s Converteam acquisition in India

New Delhi: GE Energy  has appointed Vivek Venkatachalam as the president and CEO for its Converteam business in India, after it recently concluded $3.2-billion acquisition of Converteam globally.

Venkatachalam, currently head of GE Oil & Gas, In India, will oversee the development and execution of commercial, marketing, engineering and services strategy for Converteam in India.

Venkatachalam's association with GE dates back to the year 2000 when he joined GE Water after a five year stint at Orchid Chemicals Limited. As a sales manager, he played an important role in expanding the GE Water business in India. In March 2005, he moved to GE's oil and gas business in India.

Converteam is a leading provider of power conversion and automation systems and high-efficiency power electronics, motors and generators. Converteam's solutions enable customers in a variety of industries to replace or improve mechanical processes with high-efficiency electric alternatives that deliver better reliability, less maintenance and lower emissions.

Its facilities are located in Chennai, and the company's portfolio includes variable frequency drives and other power electronics, advanced motors and generators, as well as industrial automation and controls, used in the renewable energy sector, turning intermittent and variable power from solar, wind and tidal sources into the high quality and reliable power required by grid operators throughout the world.

Venkatachalam holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from Annamalai University.
