Kissinger in China calling for `détente' in Cyber Wars

Henry Kissinger, the architect of the policy of `détente' that facilitated the easing of tensions between Cold War rivals US and the then Soviet Union (Russia), has popped up in China now preaching `détente' in Cyber Wars.
The US and China need to reach an agreement to restrict cyber attacks and designate areas that are off limits to hacking, Kissinger who is accompanied by former US ambassador to China Jon Huntsman, said.
Speaking at a Thompson Reuters event on opening of US-China relations in the 1970s, he said both China and the US have developed significant espionage capabilities and should find a way to do away with harmful cyber attacks.
Raising the issue of cyber attacks, Jon Huntsman said the issue was as serious as missile defence or the militarisation of outer space.
"At some point, we are going to have to develop a context in which we can actually discuss this and, I would think, draw some red lines around areas that we don't want them into and they might not want us into," said Huntsman.
For Huntsman, who left China in April, the China visit is the first test of his diplomatic skills in the run-up to his presidential election campaign.
