Sunil Mitra takes charge as new finance secretary

Sunil Mitra has taken over as the new finance secretary in place of Sushama Nath, who retired from service yesterday.

Mitra, a 1975-batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre, retains the charge of revenue secretary as well, an official release stated.

Sumit Bose will be the new expenditure secretary, the portfolio held by Nath who enjoyed the status of finance secretary.

Bose, a 1976-batch IAS of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been given dual charge, as he would continue to be disinvestment secretary till his replacement.

Prakash Chandra takes over as CBDT chairman

Prakash Chandra, an IRS (I-T) officer of the 1973 batch, has taken over as chairman of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) with effect from Tuesday. He will also be in charge of personnel and vigilance matters.

Chandra was director general of income tax (investigation) in Rajasthan and later director general of income tax (international taxation) in Delhi before joining the CBDT as member.
