Arunachal CM's body recovered, brought to Itanagar

Dorjee KhanduNew Delhi: Indian Army search and rescue teams recovered the body of Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Dorjee Khandu Thursday morning with the help of locals who first spotted the wreckage at a spot near the Key La pass. The bodies of four others have also been recovered.

The Pawn Hans helicopter with five on board crashed last Thursday.

The chief minister's body was brought to Luguthang village by the land route from where it was transferred to Tawang for a post-mortem examination. Khandu's body was then airlifted to the state capital, Itanagar with the MI-17 helicopter carrying his body landing at the helipad at the Raj Bhawan.

"Now that the death of Arunachal chief minister has been confirmed, the governor of Arunachal has been requested to take necessary constitutional steps. Union cabinet will meet at 11.30 am on Wednesday," said home minister P Chidambaram.

The bodies of pilots, Captain JS Babbar and Captain TS Mamik, have also been brought to Tawang where the post-mortem will be done. Their bodies will then be flown to Delhi and Uttarakhand and handed over to their families for last rites.

The bodies of Khandu's personal security officer Yeshi Chodak and Yeshi Lhamu, the sister of Tawang MLA Tsewang Dhondup, have also been brought to Tawang. After post-mortem their bodies will be handed over to their family in Tawang.
