Washington: The United States State Department has announced that assistant secretary of state for economic, energy and business affairs, Jose Fernandez, will be travelling to Mumbai, Kolkata and New Delhi in the period 7-11 March.

In the course of his visit Fernandez will meet with US companies and American chambers of commerce, Indian industry representatives and Indian government officials, officials said.  Fernandez's trip comes hard on the heels of a visit by commerce secretary Gary Locke.

As the head of the bureau responsible for international trade and investment policy and also support for US businesses and the private sector overseas, Fernandez will have discussions on the ways in which the US private sector could enhance its role in the on-going development of Indian infrastructure.

Fernandez is scheduled to speak on 10 March about potential US partnership in building India's infrastructure to the Conference on Creating Sustainable Cities, sponsored by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce in New Delhi.

The State Department also confirmed that he will deliver remarks to the US-India Importers Council in Mumbai, promoting US exports under president Obama's National Export Initiative.
