Sir Roger Moore lends face to raise funds for PETA

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has launched an advertising campaign which stars Sir Roger Moore and targets Selfridges. Moore paid for the advertising which appeals to Selfridges to stop selling foie gras. Moore said that he is fighting against the sale of foie gras because of the methods used to fatten the livers of the birds.

The ad appears on a bus stop hoarding on Orchard Street, London, directly outside Selfridges Foodhall. The ad features the tagline "Force-Feeding Birds Is Cruel, Not Yule".

PETA say that it  tried to place the ad showing an image of birds being force-fed, but it was rejected by Clear Channel on the grounds that it 'would be offensive to the general public'. Speaking about the initiative, Moore said, ''What I'm sure the public will find far more offensive is Selfridges' refusal to stop selling foie gras, the production of which is so incredibly cruel that it is prohibited in Britain."

Moore has written several letters to Selfridges outlining his disgust at the stocking of foie gras. The ex-James Bond actor, also narrates a video on PETA's website, and is joined by the Duke and Duchess of Hamilton.
