New year trading turns bullish
Mumbai: The start of Samvat 2056, the hindu new year, found buoyancy in the stock markets. Traders turned bullish on the very first day of the new year, when special trading sessions were organised by the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange as Sunday was a holiday.

The benchmark 30-stock Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange rose 52 points to close at 4650.54. With this, the Sensex has regained 440 points in the last five trading sessions, partly offsetting the losses recorded in the past 10 days. The National Stock Exchange’s S&P CNX Nifty too gained 5.05 points to close at 1369.60.

Foreign institutional investors have been active with aggressive buying. However, brokers said the special "moorat" session in the evening lacked the usual festive mood, with a thin crowd participating. Select software stocks like Fujitsu ICIM, Pentafour, Digital Equipment and Silverline Industries made most of the new year session.
