Mobile phones come with many features. Playing games on your handset is a very important feature today. A video game that can be played on a mobile phone, a smartphone, a palm top or a PDA is a mobile game.

Mobile games today have evolved from the days where you against the computer, to ones that can be played using the network too. You can play a game on your handset against your friend who is using another handset, using the Infrared Red, Bluetooth, GPRS or even WiFi.

According to a Gartner Inc. report, the mobile gaming market is all set to grow to a whooping $9.6 billion by the year 2011, a proof, if proof were needed, of the importance of games on mobile phones.

Mobile game developers are trying their best to cater to the requirements of game lovers. Mobile phone giant Nokia has introduced a mobile phone which specialises in mobile gaming.

In the race to win a lion's share of a potentially lucrative market they are also using sportsmen, film stars and other celebrities to endorse their games. This is an era of brand consciousness, and game developers are not shying away from using every weapon in their arsenal to win over potential customers. Games are being branded alongside movies in an attempt to attract movie buffs.

Some games are installed initially on the handset, just to whet your appetite. If you want more, you can download them using the GPRS. Games are classified into different categories like sports, action, war, and racing. They cost anything between Rs 50 to Rs 200 to download and are offered by mobile operators and even other OEMs.

A cheaper option is to download games from the Internet. Games downloaded on to your computer/laptop can then be transferred to the handset using a data cable or Bluetooth technology. There are many websites which offer free game downloads. The downside of this option is that there is always a risk of downloading a virus on to your computers along with the games.

With stress levels seemingly increasing in our busy world, people are finding different ways and means to reduce stress. Carrying a video game everywhere may not be feasible, but playing a game on your mobile phone on the way to or from office can be just the thing to provide some relief.
