Creative recently launched its stunning new, sleek, Personal Media Player (PMP), Creative X-Fi.

It is an accepted fact that compressing audio files in order to reduce the file size and fit more songs into the device leads to an accompanying loss of audio quality.  The state-of-the-art X-Fi technology from Creative restores the quality lost during compression, in order to provide a rich, crystal clear, audio experience.

Another feature of the X-Fi technology is that it intelligently moves the earphone stereo source away from the ears, helping to simulate the experience of listening to music through a pair of high-end speakers.

The audio field is virtually expanded to produce this effect. To further enhance the  listening experience, Creative has bundled its EP-830 in-ear earphones, which offer great noise-isolation ability, leading to crystal clear reproduction.

All this comes in a pocket-size package, weighing a mere 68.75g, with a brilliant 2.5''  TFT screen with support for up to 16.7 million colours.  It also has a built-in speaker, for those times when you want to play the music really loud.

You can also import pictures from your supported SD card and view them on your player.  Prefer to listen to radio for a while? The integrated FM radio with 32 presets, lets you store your favourite stations with complete ease.  An equaliser with 8 presets, which is also customisable, helps you to tweak the sound output for the desired effect.

Connectivity is through High speed USB 2.0, while the power charging option is also available.

The 8 GB capacity enables you to store up to 4,000 songs (app. 4 mins per song), with support for WMA, MP3, WAV and non-protected AAC(.m4a) formats. Coming to video, you can playback WMV, MJPEG, MPEG-4 SP, DivX 4/5 and XviD.

The built-in Lithium battery gives up to 36 hours of audio playback and up to 5 hours of video playback time. The organiser allows you to store contacts, set alarms and also has a calendar and task list.

The built-in Audio-recorder can be used to record important meetings or personal audio memos.  The alarm tone can be personalised as well!

AS PMP's go, this is by far one of the most feature-rich players around now, with a wider array of supported formats and greater functionality than the iconic iPod.  16GB and 32GB versions of the X-Fi are also on the cards with support for Wi-Fi connectivity on the cards in the latter.  All in all this is one Cool PMP that towers above the rest, notwithstanding its diminutive size.
