Kuala Lumpur - places to see

For the intrepid travller, KL has a host of places to see.
Sultan
Abdul Samad Building - a wonderful blend of
Victorian and Moorish architecture, built in 1897, this
former Secretariat building for the British administration,
now houses the Supreme Court. It is topped by a 43m-high
clock tower.
Merdeka
Square - at the heart of colonial KL, it is
an
immaculately turfed 8.2 hectare
area of historical interest. A 100 meter high flagpole
marks the spot where the Malayan Flag was hoisted on August
31, 1957 upon gaining independence from the British rule.
Masjid Jamek - the oldest and the most
delightful of all KLs mosques, the Friday
Mosque is at the confluence of the Kelang and Gombak
rivers. It features graceful arches and domes, reminiscent
of the Moorish era.
KL Railway Station - built in 1910, this is yet another heritage building that reflects the influence of Moorish architecture.
Kuala Lumpur Tower - this impressive 421m high concrete tower is Asias tallest and the fourth tallest telecommunications tower in the world.Visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the city from its observation deck as well as the revolving restaurant.
Petronas
Twin Towers - the worlds tallest buildings,
452m high twin towers, are currently not open to the public.
Petaling Street - which was once KL''s original Chinatown, provides an unmistakable Oriental atmosphere particularly at night when petty traders spread out their wares along the street.
Central Market - this building which serves as a retail gallery for budding craftsmen and artists is a unique place to venture and perhaps pick up curios and antiques for a bargain.
Lake Gardens - KLs most popular park, this 92 hectare garden showcases harmony, beauty and tranquility created by both man and nature.
National Planetarium - One of KL''s latest
attractions, the planetarium offers visitors a better
insight into mankind''s new frontier, outer space. What
is of special interest here is the extraordinary lift
ride that will give you a spectacular bird''s-eye view
of KL.
Batu Caves - 13 kms north of KL, this Hindu temple is housed inside the towering limestone formations. The main temple is reached by a straight flight of 272 steps.
Natioanal Zoo and Aquarium - 13 kms northeast of KL, they are spread across a 62 hectare area.
