Market ends higher: Power, metal, realty up

Markets ended with hefty gains after an extremely volatile session. After a knee jerk reaction to three serial bomb blasts at Lucknow, Varanasi and Faizabad, markets surged again to close at higher levels. Power, capital goods and real estate stocks were the star performers of the day. Banking and pharma stocks ended weak. But on a weekly basis, it was a troubled week for equity markets across the globe. Nifty was down 5% and Sensex was down 4% on weekly basis. In today''s session DLF, HDFC, Reliance Energy and Unitech were top gainers on the indices. HDFC Bank, Maruti Suzuki, ITC, HPCL and Tata Power were top losers on the indices. Sensex was up 326.55 points or 1.76% at 18852.87, and the Nifty up 89.25 points or 1.62% at 5608.60. About 1884 shares have advanced, 1127 shares declined, and 65 shares are unchanged. BSE realty index closed up 3.75% at 9,812.39. Akruti City, DLF, Unitech, Peninsula Land and Omaxe were the top gainers. BSE metal index ended up 3.64% at 16,629.05. Jindal Steel, JindalStainless, Sterlite Ind, SAIL and Shree Precoated closed higher. BSE power index gained 3.18% at 4,283.01. Reliance Energy, Torrent Power, Power Grid Corp, GMR Infra and NTPC closed higher. BSE capital goods index surged 2.76% at 19,335.17. Praj Industries, Alstom Projects, L&T, ABB and Punj Lloyd ended up. BSE oil & gas index flared 2.63% at 11,999.14. Essar Oil, RNRL, Petronet LNG and Reliance Industries ended higher BSE auto closed up 1.37% at 5,250.15. Escorts, MICO, Punj Tractors, TVS Motor and Bharat Forge closed in green. BSE IT ended up 1.30% at 4,011.21. Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech, I-Flex Solution, Infosys and Financial Tech closed higher. BSE bankex closed flat 0.22% at 10,429.54. Andhra Bank, ICICI Bank, Karnataka Bank, IOB and Allahabad Bank ended up. BSE FMCG ended flat 0.07% at 2,105.09. Bata India, United Spirits, HUL and Dabur India closed in green. The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 14495.96 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 66744.48 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 6312.63 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 87553.07 crore. Asian markets were trading mixed. Hong Kong''s Hang Seng surged 2.47% or 642.53 points at 26,647.45, Singapore''s Straits Times was up 0.58% or 19.26 points at 3,332.14, However, Taiwan''s Taiwan Weighted was down 0.16% or 13.71 points at 8,485.66 and South Korea''s Seoul Composite declined 1.05% or 18.84 points at 1,780.18.
