Nintendo Switch leads industry in video game hardware sales

Nintendo has managed to lead the industry in video game hardware sales, by a wide margin, for September, a very promising sign for the upcoming holiday shopping season. The Nintendo Switch has been the best-selling console for the third straight month in the industry and the fifth month overall after it was introduced seven months ago.

The US sales of Switch have now exceeded 2 million units, which is great in view of the fact that the Wii U sold all of 6.23 million units across North America during its entire time on the market. The success of the Nintendo Switch was also bolstered by continuing 3DS device family sales, as also Super NES Classic Edition sales, both of which helped it not only lead, but essentially dominate the video game hardware market.

Nintendo has also released a software update for the Nintendo Switch that allows data transfer between consoles, including saves, and commentators say from personal experience that it works as advertised. It has also added the ability to save and share video clips from certain games, which could help raise the hype factor around high-profile releases, they say.

Switch 4.0 officially adds profile and save transfers between Switch systems, which will entirely wipe whatever selected data is moved from the source system. With this Switch owners get the ability to move save data in any official capacity, as opposed to having save data being completely trapped on a default system.

Also Nintendo has also finally delivered on its promise to support video capture for Switch games, but the functionality has launched in a weird (and therefore Nintendo-like) way. But what is good about it is that it works much like it does on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms, in that users will be able to automatically capture and store the last 30 seconds of their play. This will allow users to trigger the capture of anything they want to save by long-pressing the system's "capture" button.

They can then manually trim the beginning and ending of the 30-second clip as they want before uploading to either a Facebook or Twitter account.
