Micromax, once known for bringing "cheap phones brands'' to the Indian market is keen to shed that image.

Known for offering devices with top-end specs at mid range prices, Micromax made its big global announcement with giant Intel's first dual-boot Windows and Android tablet yesterday at the  Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas, the world's largest stage for technology and gadgets.

Intel has been trying its best to secure a toehold in the mobile space. According to commentators the development comes as a coup of sorts for both companies.

Taiwan's Asus too announced an Intel-powered Transformer Book Duet TD300, running both Android and Windows 8 on the same processor. That is however, more of a laptop, while what Micromax is offering is more of a tablet, which makes the Indian company the first to offer a dual-boot tablet.

Announced at CES on Monday, the Micromax LapTab would hit the market in February.

The device is powered by an Intel Bay Trail-M processor and would be the first-of-its-kind tablet to run both Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and Windows 8, with just a reboot enabling the switch over.

The device supports both Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS and Windows 8. To switch from Windows to Android and vice-versa, users need to simply reboot the device and select the alternate option.

The LapTab features a 10.1-inch IPS vibrant display, 2 GB RAM and 7400 mAh battery. The device comes with a 2 megapixel front camera. The brightness control technology, allows the LapTab to automatically adjust the screen content by continuously monitoring the environment.

The phone comes with an internal storage of 32 GB, and its memory can be further expanded to 64 GB. Bluetooth v4.0 and Wi-Fi are supported by the device.

The LapTab features a transleeve which can be combined as a cover and stand for the wireless keyboard, which packs a 230 mAh battery offering continuous usage of 20+ hours.
