26 September 2006
Mumbai: Google Inc, the world's largest internet search engine, is looking for potential acquisition targets in India as it expands operations in the country.

Google is currently in talks with new start-ups and innovative business models in voice and SMS-based advertising space, to expand its presence in the country, reports quoting Google sources said. Google is also in search of points-men to drive its expansion in the region, the report added.

Google is believed to be looking for unique products, technologies and engineering teams that can help us provide innovative products to our users or enhance existing services.

Google, the report said, has already identified some start-ups with significant operations in the country.

The company is also scouting for some senior level officials to lead its investment and acquisition strategy in India and neighbouring countries in South Asia, the report added

Google, meanwhile, is planning to extend its product search capabilities by helping users refine their product queries with a second search box. Refined queries will lead users to product listings on Google Base, which Google will promote over its old shopping service, Froogle.
