Tyre production in India rises 3% in July, exports surge 32%

Mumbai: Indian tyre production rose by 3 per cent to 44.96 lakh units in July, while exports surged by 32 per cent year-on-year to 3.44 lakh units, following a growth in vehicular segments, according to the data released by Automotive Tyre Manufacturers'' Association (ATMA).

The growth, which occurred both in the country and outside, was mainly in truck, bus, car, utility vehicles and motorcycles, ATMA said. Exports surged by 32 per cent year-on-year to 3.44 lakh tyres during the month under review.

Production of bus and truck tyres jumped by 13 per cent to 9.52 lakh units while that of car tyres and utility vehicles increased by 15 per cent to 1.34 lakh units. Car tyre production rose 13 per cent to 8.64 lakh units, light trucks posted a 31-per cent growth at 2.92 lakh units and that of motorcycle tyres recorded a 6 per cent growth at 1.34 million units during the month.

But production of tractor tyres and animal-drawn vehicles dipped by 12 per cent and 45 per cent, respectively, to 18,626 units in July. Scooter and moped tyre output also slipped to 23 per cent and 53 per cent, respectively, to 6.45 lakh units.

In the moped segment, tyre production was down by 53 per cent to 9,572 units and industrial tyres dipped by 13 per cent to 23,849 units during the month.
