Prepaid mobile internet services in the Kashmir valley are reportedly being restored after six months.

Local publication Greater Kashmir quoted the state police as saying, ''With the improvement in the situation, it has been decided to restore internet/data services on the prepaid mobile telephony tonight (Monday).''

The services had been suspended in the wake of the unrest over the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen leader Burhan Wani on 8 July 2016.

A majority of other restrictions were lifted earlier in November, including curfew and postpaid internet services on mobiles.

The use of mobile phones and internet services was permitted on Republic Day for the second time in over a decade. Since 2005, restrictions have been imposed on both Republic Day and Independence Day, fearing explosions triggered by cellphones.
