An online survey by a travel portal has revealed that Indians set aside more than one hour a day for work even when on a week-long holiday, ranking them at the top of the global list of nationalities who carried along their office on a holiday.

"India (80 per cent) leads in checking in with work daily followed by Thailand (74 per cent) and Mexico (65 per cent)," a global study of mobile-device related behaviour and preferences among travellers conducted across 19 countries revealed.

By way of contrast, Norwegians (37 per cent) and Germans (37 per cent) topped the nationalities that never checked on work while on holiday said the Engica/Expedia survey which covered about 9,600 respondents.

The three countries that placed the highest premium on mobile devices as a travel companion were China (where 94 per cent of respondents ranked it number one), Taiwan (also 94 per cent ) and Thailand (91 per cent).

The dependency on smartphones and gadgets had increased over time and was very  well reflected in traveller behaviour, according to Manmeet Ahluwalia, marketing head, Expedia India.

Indians (83 per cent ) were also at the top of the list for travelling once or twice a year on work, followed by those from Mexico (70 per cent) and China (64 per cent).

"In India, constant connectivity is a priority when mobile devices are carried in hand from work to home and now on vacation too. When we're more efficient and productive using mobile devices and apps that provide a seamless experience, the quality of our vacation improves and the work-life balance can be prioritised," Egencia India country director Amit Arora told PTI.

The study, which involved 9,642 adults across 19 countries aged 18 and above owning at least one mobile device, was conducted by Northstar, a globally integrated strategic insights consulting firm.

The study covering North America, Europe, South America and Asia Pacific November 2015 across was conducted in November 2015.
