Handset manufacturer Intex Technologies (India) Ltd has launched India's cheapest smartphone Intex Cloud FX, priced at at Rs 1,999. Intex Cloud FX runs on Firefox Operating System (OS), the first in the country to run on Firefox OS.

The handset comes with features such as Bluetooth, WiFi, dual SIM and comes with an expandable memory of upto 4GB.

Intex Cloud FX, which is available in black and white, is available only on Snapdeal.com. It supports several languages such as English, Hindi and Tamil.

''With the launch of Intex Cloud FX, we aim to enable the masses to get smartphone experience at the cost of a feature phone,'' said Keshav Bansal, director, marketing,  Intex Technologies.

On the partnership with Snapdeal.com, Bansal said that the partnership allows Intex Technologies to offer the smartphone across the country at a ''revolutionary cost''.

Cloud FX is equipped with 1.0 GHz processor for instant messaging and fast internet browsing.

Firefox OS is an open source-based OS for smartphones built entirely using HTML5 and other open Web standards, and it is free from the rules and restrictions of existing proprietary platforms. The OS was developed by software major Mozilla Foundation.

''The launch of India's first Firefox OS smartphone by Intex and at such a lucrative price point, exclusively on Snapdeal.com, is very exciting, given the enablement it will provide to current feature phone users to upgrade to a high quality smart phone. We are sure to see a very positive response from our customers,'' said Kunal Bahl, Co-Founder and CEO at Snapdeal.com.

Intex, started in 1996, also has an agreement with telecom service provider Aircel to offer 1GB free data for two months along with free access to Facebook, bundled with the device.

''The positive consumer feedback from other markets tells that people like the unique user experience and openness we're building with Firefox OS. With the supports from Intex, Firefox OS smartphones in ultra-low-cost category will redefine the entry-level smartphones segment, which attract people to transfer from featured phones to smartphones.

Having a stronghold as Intex, we believe Firefox OS devices are going to create another momentum in Asia,'' said Li Gong, president of Mozilla.
