WeChat offers users 1 GB free cloud storage space

Instant messaging application Wechat is offering 1 Gb free cloud storage space to users to allow them to store documents, videos and pictures, a move aimed at addressing the limited space on smartphones and tablets.
WeChat users now simply need to press the 'Favourite' option on their chat screen which provided them an option to store not only the pictures but additionally voice notes, videos and text messages too, to have the data saved on the cloud directly.
The saved pictures, videos and messages could be accessed at any time at the users' will. The new feature allowed users to access their stored data on multiple devices, not just limited to their personal smartphone.
With the 'one-of-a-kind' cloud storage option, the WeChat social messaging platform lets users freely click and share their favourite moments with their friends and family.
The messaging application which was a product from Chinese firm Tincent was the second most downloaded application in iOS in India in 2013 and as per Global Web Index- a UK based research firm, India had 41.8 per cent smartphone users on WeChat.
The application is supported on Android, Windows, Blackberry, iOS and Nokia X.
Nilay Arora, vice president, marketing and business development, said the new feature was termed as 'The Favourite Message with 1GB cloud storage' and would enable its users to store their beloved memories in the form of texts, pictures and videos without compromising their smartphone's storage space, indiannerve.com reported. He added the application would definitely add more value to to the overall end user communication experience.
WeChat launched its operations in India in 2012, and had 100 million registered users worldwide. The multi-platform messaging application launched its iOS version in 2013 and was the most downloaded application in 2013.
With the introduction of the feature, WeChat was aiming high to match-up in the league with big players like WhatsApp, and Line.
