CAG’s loss figure speculative, Raja tells SC

Former telecom minister A Raja today questioned in the Supreme Court the finding of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) that the exchequer had suffered a loss of Rs1.76 lakh crore in the allocation of 2G spectrum, terming the figure as "mind-boggling and speculative".
Raja told the Supreme Court that he was a victim of trial by media, and the so-called of loss to the exchequer in was 'presumptive and subjective' and would not stand judicial scrutiny.
He said the 2G spectrum pricing policy which he had followed in 2008 was the same which was reiterated by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2010.
Raja was represented by his counsel T R Andhyarujina before an apex court bench of G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court reportedly questioned the decision by Raja to ignore the objections raised by the Prime Minister and others on the allocation of 2G spectrum.
Raja submitted, "I feel, subject to what you say, the matter requires serious consideration as the CAG may completely be wrong on it."
