RCom ties up with GetJar for mobile application services

Anil Ambani-controlled Reliance Communications (RCom) today signed an agreement with US-based GetJar Networks to launch its own application store. Application stores carry software modules that run specific tasks on own cellphones.
The company said the deal will enable it to offer its subscribers free mobile applications from GetJar's cross-platform application store via the R-World VAS platform.
These applications, which pan across both GSM and CDMA services of the company, can be accessed across a wide range of mobile phones.
The app store is a concept introduced by Apple. It allows consumers to browse and download various applications for both entertainment and commerce. After the popularisation of this concept, many service providers launched their own products.
Application stores are getting popular with Indian mobile service providers too.
Based in the UK, Silicon Valley and Lithuania, GetJar is the world's largest cross platform app store with over a half billion downloads to date.
