In a major relief to Delhi residents, the Sheila Dikshit government today cut  power tariff in the state.

Under the new rates, a domestic consumer would pay Rs3.50 per unit for the first 200 units of power, Rs 5.50 for 200 to 400 units And Rs 6.50 for consumption between 400 to 600.

The state government's announcement comes hours after India Against Corruption (IAC) Arvind Kejriwal led a protest outside the office of BSES, one of Delhi's power utility companies, Zee News reported.

The IAC led by Arvind Kejriwal has been demanding that the Delhi government roll back the hike in power tariff.

Kejriwal had asked people not to pay power bills till the tariff was reduced.

With a 26-per cent hike, the power tariff for domestic consumers in the city came into effect on 1 July this year with the new rates announced by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC).
