Rajya Sabha MP, Amar Singh was today granted bail by the Delhi High Court in connection with the allegations against him in the cash-for-votes scam. According to the court,  the bail was granted since Singh was ill and had sought bail on grounds of poor medical condition.

The court has barred him from leaving the country, though he would be allowed permission to petition the trial court to let him travel abroad, for medical treatment if needed. Singh has pleaded that he would need to visit Singapore on a regular basis for treatment.

Actor-politician, Jaya Prada terming the bail as a Diwali gift, said she was confident that Singh had done nothing wrong.

The former Samajwadi Party leader, was arrested on 6 September and sent to Tihar Jail for his alleged involvement in the bribing of three BJP MPs ahead of a trust vote in parliament in July 2008.

He had to be shifted to the All India Institute of Medical sciences (AIIMS) seven days later, on complaints of vomiting and pain in the kidney.

The 55-year-old leader has been under treatment for renal infection at the hospital ever since. He suffers from diabetes and had a renal transplant in September 2009. He underwent intestinal surgery 10 years ago and is also suffering from hypertension, chronic kidney disease and urinary tract infection.
