RPP Infra Projects to set up solar power plant

RPP Infra Projects today said that it plans to set up a 5MW solar power plant with a total investment of Rs80 crore.

The company, which is primarily engaged in the business of infrastructure development such as highways, roads and bridges, is contemplating joint ventures with potential solar cell manufacturing companies in Thailand and China for the project.

RPP Infra informed that it is already in talks with Thai Agency Engineering Cooperation from Thailand and is looking for prospective partners in China to commence operations for the solar power projects.

The government has fixed the targets for the year ending 2012, 2015 and 2020 totaling to 20,000 MWs under the Jawarharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM), which depicts the focus on the sector and to meet up the rising demand for the energy, Arul Sundaram, chairman and managing director of RPP Infra Projects, said.

The company has selected an aggregated 92 acre site in Kamudhi, Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu for the power plant.

RPP Infra will utilise crystalline technology for producing power by solar energy and will commence operations in March 2011-2012, the company said in a statement.

It also plans to setup a manufacturing unit for solar PV module to address the demand for the PV module in the coming years.
